Like Hawaii's sunshine showers, honey varietals are the essence of tropical liquid gold. Naturally infused with the floral accents of the seasonal nectar flows of Hawaii Island's eastern coastline, Pualani Bee Farmʻs raw honey delivers the warmth and sweetness of tropical blossoms in every jar. The continually changing character of nectar flows in eastern Hawaii ensures that each harvest is a unique reflection of the place, time, and geography in which the bees produce the honey.

Throughout the year, Pualani Bee Farm's honeybees produce the single-estate Tropical Wildflower Honey varietal by naturally blending the nectar of diverse floral sources which they forage from the rainforests in and around the forested ahupua'a, or traditional Hawaiian land division, of Wa'a Wa'a. rich in flavor and sweetness, this amber-colored honey is a classic, must-have Hawaiian wildflower honey unlike any other found in North America.

From the early springtime to summer, our bees occasionally produce the highly-prized single-estate, Ohia Lehua Honey. This mono-floral varietal is known for its subtle sweetness, a naturally crystallized texture, and a color that transforms from butter-yellow to ivory. This one-of-a-kind honey produced only in Hawaii is derived from an endemic native Hawaiian flowering tree, called Ohia Lehua, making it one of the rarest honey varietals in the world,

To highlight the diverse terroir of Hawaii Island's honey production, we occasionally offer specially selected unique tasting single and multi-estate honey varietals from other bee yards on Hawaii Island.

In Hawaii, honeybees translate the rainbow of sunshine-filled flowers of the islands' plant life into colorful granules of bee pollen. Foraging their local environment, honeybees produce bee pollen by mixing flower pollen, nectar, enzymes, honey, beeswax, and bee secretions into protein-rich granules to use and store as food for the colony.

Depending on the seasonal availability of different flowering plants from which the bees forage, the colors of bee pollen granules can be white, yellow, orange, red, green, brown, and black. At Pualani Bee Farm, the surrounding rainforests offer our honeybees a diverse, abundant, and rich menu of plants to forage thus enabling the sustainable collection of surplus bee pollen--a superfood for human consumption--without harming the health and wellbeing of the hive.

With over 250 biologically active substances, bee pollen is filled with nutrients, including amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, and antibiotics. Besides the general nutritional value of bee pollen, researchers also recommend it for numerous health benefits, such as to fight chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes. It is also known to lower heart risk factors, boost liver function, improve the immune system, reduce inflammation and swelling, kill bacteria, prevent infections, heal wounds, ease menopausal symptoms, and improve overall metabolism, among other conditions.

Bees produce a natural resinous substance, called propolis, or bee glue, from the sap and parts of plants, such as needle-leaved trees or evergreens. They use this compound as a coating to build their hives, smooth out the internal walls, repair gaps or cracks in the hive,, insulate, and keep out external pests and invaders.

For thousands of years, ancient civilizations have obtained propolis from beehives for medicinal purposes. Today, researchers have identified propolis as having more than 300 compounds that include antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. The majority are polyphenols or antioxidants that fight disease and benefit the human body. For example, propolis has shown to be effective in improving the effects of upper respiratory tract infections, common cold, sore throat, flu-like infections, wound healing, burns, acne, herpes simplex and herpes genitalis, neurodermatitis, diabetes, stomach ulcers, gingivitis, and inflammation, among others. Rarely available in its pure straight-from-the-hive form, Pualani natural raw propolis can be processed into a variety of forms, including orally in powder, tablet, liquid extract, and capsule form or applied topically in salves, creams, ointments, lotions, and tinctures, Before using propolis or propolis derivative products,, healthcare providers should be consulted about the proper dosage, method of extraction, interactions, and duration of use,

Pualani Hawaiian Rainforest Beeswax Salve is made with 100% raw Hawaiian beeswax, organic virgin coconut oil infused with pure propolis from our own hives, Hawaiian-grown ginger root, and cinnamon bark from Zanzibar, Tanzania. These all-natural ingredients endow this aromatic salve with a heavenly scent that when applied topically can help soothe dry, cracked, or irritated skin, relieve aching muscles and inflammation, and improve healing of minor cuts, scrapes, burns, and wounds.

Beeswax is known for therapeutic benefits to the skin, including anti-inflammatory properties that encourage wound healing; protection by forming a barrier between the skin and the environment without clogging pores; and the support of cell reconstruction and health promoted by its high content of vitamin A.

Studies have shown that propolis has a special compound called pinocembrin, a flavonoid that acts as an antifungal. The anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of propolis make it helpful in healing wounds and burns by speeding up new healthy cell growth. Coconut oil may also be linked to some potential benefits for topical use on the skin, including reducing inflammation, keeping skin moisturized, and helping to heal wounds. The medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also possess antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria. Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory with oils that might help to relieve pain from inflammation and reduce swelling. The natural oils contained in cinnamon bark are thought to reduce spasms and increase blood flow. Moreover, with antibacterial properties, the natural oil in cinnamon bark is also a safe, effective, and non-chemical natural preservative to help maintain the effectiveness of these natural ingredients and oils.

Exuding the heavenly scents of Hawaii's tropical islands, our beeswax candles are made with filtered beeswax and pure virgin coconut oil and infused with Tropical Wildflower Honey. Lightly scented with organic lemongrass essential oil, the lit candles exude the fresh aroma of citrus.

Pualani Bee Farm occasionally offers special blends of beeswax candles scented with seasonal herbs harvested from our gardens as well as aromatic spices, such as clove, cinnamon, cardamon, and anise—all from the island of Zanzibar, just a short boat ride from Barbara and Saidʻs palm-thatched beach house in Tanzania.

With a light spectrum equivalent to the rays of sunshine, these air-purifying candles bring the outdoor freshness of the exotic tropics into every room. Supplementing our own limited beeswax supply with the surplus from other local apiaries, each batch of our home-made, naturally-blended beeswax candles varies slightly in color and aromatic nuances, unique to the hive location, the bees' sources of nectar, and the time of year of the honey harvest. When lit, these sweet little jars of golden light radiate the very essence 100% raw Hawaiian honey.
